Bharat Ratna club secretary murder: Senior advocate Samrat Kar Bhowmik gets bail
Senior advocate Samrat Kar Bhowmik , who has applied for anticipatory bail before the District and Session court of West Tripura has got bail from the court on Friday.
Kar Bhowmik has filed the bail petition over his alleged involvement as defense lawyer with the sensational murder of club secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha of Usha Bazar, Durga Prasanna Deb alias Viki, who was shot dead on April 30 night.
Giving details, special public prosecutor Shankar Lodh said that after the investigation officer (IO) of the murder case, Prajit Malakar had served a notice under 91 of CrPc , which mentioned that one of the arrested accused Sunny Saha during interrogation has revealed that the hard disk of CCTV footage of accused Raju Barman has handed over to advocate Kar Bhowmik and as per the police notice, they asked him to handed over the said hard disk.
Later, Kar Bhowmik under Section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) of 1973 over fear of police arrest filed an anticipatory bail petition before the Session court of West Tripura.
On Friday during the hearing the prosecution team did not oppose bail petition of Kar Bhowmik and court granted his anticipatory bail, said Special PP Shankar Lodh.
The court in its bail order said that "Kar Bhowmik shall make him available before the investigating police officer for the purpose of interrogation as and when required and that the petitioner shall cooperate with the prosecution for proper ends of police investigation."
It may be recalled here that senior advocate Samrat Kar Bhowmik has stood as defense lawyer for arrested three persons including Sandip Kar alias Akash, Birchakra Ghosh, younger brother of prime accused Prabakar Ghosh and Sunny Saha, brother-in-law of another prime accused Raju Barman.
While, on Friday again arrested Sushmita Sarkar, who was in jail custody after series of police remand period was produced before court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and court again sent her to jail custody up to May 20th next, said advocate Shankar Lodh.
So far, the Agartala city police has arrested six persons including former Bharta Ratna club president, Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury, Sushmita Sarkar and her mother Uma Sarkar, Sandip Kar alias Akash, Sunny Saha and Birchakra Ghosh, younger brother of another prime accused Prabakar Ghosh. Out of six arrested persons, Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury and Sushmita Sarkar are in jail custody and the remaining four accused persons are in police custody for interrogation.
Lodh said that the police investigation is in progress and based on the interrogation statements and with scientific evidence, police will soon be able to arrest remaining accused involved in the murder.
The investigation team so far was unable to arrest the remaining half-dozen of accused including some noted negotiation mafias, but claimed that investigation was in the final stage and would soon resolve the murder mystery.
