Birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar observed in Agartala with tribute to his ideals
The birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar was observed with due respect and solemnity in front of Ujjayanta palace in Agartala. The programme was organized to commemorate the 136th birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking at the event, SC Welfare Minister, Sudhangshu Das said Dr. Ambedkar’s immense contributions to the nation as a social reformer, economist, jurist, and the chief architect of the Constitution. He described him as a champion of social justice who dedicated his life to uplifting the oppressed and marginalized sections of society.
Das emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar envisioned an inclusive India free from caste discrimination, inequality, and injustice, where all citizens would enjoy equal rights and dignity. His lifelong struggle for education, equality, and constitutional rights continues to inspire generations.
He stated that Dr. Ambedkar regarded education as the most powerful tool for social transformation. His ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity remain highly relevant in today’s society. The Minister called upon the younger generation to follow his path and work towards building a just and progressive nation.
During the ceremony, Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, MLA Minarani Sarkar along with other dignitaries present at the programme paid their floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Cultural performances, including songs, were presented by artists of Rabindra Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, adding to the significance of the occasion.
Prior to the programme, a procession was taken out from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, which passed through the main roads of the city and concluded at the venue.
The event witnessed the participation of dignitaries, intellectuals, and members of the public, all of whom reiterated their commitment to uphold the ideals and vision of Dr. BR Ambedkar.
All the main political parties including ruling BJP and opposition CPI(M) and Congress also observed the day with patriotic fervor.
