BJP wins both LS seats of Tripura with massive margins
The candidates of ruling BJP won bothLok Sabha seats of Tripura with massive margins for the second-consecutive time.
BJP candidate and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who secured a record 8,81,341 votes, won the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat by defeating Tripura Pradesh Congress president and INDIA Bloc nominee Ashish Kumar Saha by a margin of 6,11,578 votes, who has only secured 2,69,763 votes.
Deb, currently a Rajya Sabha member and former Chief Minister (2018-2022), was for the first time elected to the Lower House of Parliament.
While, BJP candidate Kriti Singh Debbarma, elder sister of Tipra-Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who bagged 7,77,447 votes, won the East Tripura parliamentary constituency defeating CPI(M) candidate and INDIA Bloc nominee Rajendra Reang by a margin of 4,86,819 votes. Rajendra Reang gets 2,90,628 votes.
In both Lok Sabha seats, significantly the number of votes secured in “NOTA” got third position . Nine candidates each contested for the politically-important Tripura West parliamentary seat and the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, reserved for tribals.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP candidate and Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik and teacher-turned-politician Rebati Tripura won the West Tripura and East Tripura constituencies respectively, who were dropped in the General elections of 2024.
