Border Guards detained 8 Bangladeshi, 6 Rohingyas for illegal entry
In the midst of celebration of Durga Puja festival and strong surveillance in the entire stretch of India-Bangladesh along with Tripura after unrest in Bangladesh to stop any attempted infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements, the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura still unabated and on Tuesday again, BSF jawans posted in different bordering areas managed to detained eight more Bangladeshi and six Rohingyas for their illegal entry and handed over them to police for further legal actions.
BSF sources said that based on specific information, BSF troops deployed in the area of Border Out Post (BOP) Mike under Unakoti district apprehended 3 Bangladeshi nationals near ICP Manughat while they were planning to exfiltrate to Bangladesh territory Monday afternoon. Apprehended Bangladesh nationals are residents of Kishoreganj and Habiganj districts of Bangladesh.
In another operation BSF troops of BOP Rangichera under Dhalai district apprehended four Bangladesh nationals (female) while they were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory with the assistance of touts by negotiating the border fence. Apprehended Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Bhola and Manikganj districts of Bangladesh.
In the early hours of Tuesday (October 15) ,a joint operation with sister agencies BSF troops apprehended One Bangladeshi along with one Indian tout at Agartala Railway station while they were trying to board Humsafar Express .
In another operation on specific information BSF troops of BOP Baithangbari under North Tripura district apprehended six Rohingya illegal migrants while they were trying to enter Indian territory by negotiating the border fence.
Further enquiry is under progress. In recent times BSF has not only intensified the operations against the infiltrators but also strengthened the anti-infiltration apparatus to prevent the infiltration into Indian territory.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which has stepped up domination and vigil along the border in Tripura after the Bangladesh unrest began in June this year to prevent infiltration, also arrested over about 370 Bangladeshi nationals and 47 Rohingyas in between July and October while trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
BSF Tripura frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das frequently visits the bordering areas and interacts with the field commanders to ensure security in those areas and stresses using non-lethal weapons to prevent trans-border smuggling and sensitize them about the current situation.
Tripura now shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land-based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes and other issues.
