Border Guards foil infiltration bids, detained 7 Bangladeshi from different districts
Amidst celebration of Durga Puja festival and strong surveillance in the entire stretch of India-Bangladesh along with Tripura after unrest in Bangladesh to stop any attempted infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements, the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura still unabated and on Saturday again, BSF jawans posted in different bordering areas managed to detained seven more Bangladeshi for their illegal entry and handed over them to police for further legal actions.
BSF sources said that based on specific information, BSF troops deployed in the area of Border Out Post (BOP) Shyampara under Sabroom police station of South Tripura district apprehended 4 Bangladeshi nationals including 3 males and one female while they were trying to negotiate the border fencing on Saturday.
All four apprehended Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Chattogram district of Bangladesh.
In another operation on specific information, one Bangladeshi national was apprehended in the area of Border Out Post (BOP) Anandpur under Sonamura police station of Sepahijala district. The individual was found in possession of Bangladeshi Currency, 3600 (BD Taka) and Indian Currency Rs. 3000. The apprehended Bangladeshi national is a resident of Dhaka district of Bangladesh
Additionally, BSF troops conducted further operations that led to the apprehension of two more Bangladeshi illegal immigrants in the general area of Dharmanagar under North Tripura district and in the area of Border Out Post Sabroom of South Tripura district along with Rs 5540 (Indian currency) in their possession. Apprehended Bangladesh nationals are residents of Dhaka and Comilla districts of Bangladesh respectively.
In a separate coordinated joint operation conducted by BSF troops along with sister agencies, two Bangladeshi nationals (one male & one female) were apprehended at Agartala railway station while they were attempting to board the train. Both apprehended Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Mymensingh district of Bangladesh.
Further enquiry is under progress. In recent times BSF has not only intensified the operations against the infiltrators but also strengthened the anti-infiltration apparatus to prevent the infiltration into Indian territory.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which has stepped up domination and vigil along the border in Tripura after the Bangladesh unrest began in June this year to prevent infiltration, also arrested over 355 Bangladeshi nationals and 41 Rohingyas in between July and September while trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
BSF Tripura frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das frequently visits the bordering areas and interacts with the field commanders to ensure security in those areas and stresses using non-lethal weapons to prevent trans-border smuggling and sensitize them about the current situation.
Tripura now shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land-based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes and other issues.
