BSF detained 3 more Bangladeshi for illegal entry, 4 Indian touts
Amidst celebration of Laxmi Puja festival and strong surveillance in the entire stretch of India-Bangladesh along with Tripura after unrest in Bangladesh to stop any attempted infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements, the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura still unabated and on Tuesday again, BSF jawans posted in different bordering areas managed to detained three more Bangladeshi for their illegal entry and has also detained four Indian touts involved in facilitating illegal migration.
BSF through a press statement said that on Wednesday (October 16) two Bangladesh nationals were apprehended by BSF troops in the area of Border Outpost (BOP) of Rahimpur under Kalamchaura police station of Sepahijala district while they were trying to enter Indian territory by negotiating the border fence. Both apprehended Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Based on the revelation made by apprehended Bangladesh nationals, a joint operation was conducted by BSF and Kalamchowra police station in Indian village Gurangola and one tout involved in facilitating infiltration was arrested.
In another operation, on the intervening night of October 17th (Thursday), one Bangladesh national was apprehended in the area of Mohanpur BOP under Sidhai police station of West Tripura district while he was trying to enter Indian Territory by negotiating the border fence. Apprehended Bangladeshi was resident of Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh.
In two separate intelligence-based joint operations by BSF, along with Government Railway Police (GRP) Agartala and Tripura Police, three Indian touts involved in facilitating illegal migration, immigration were arrested.
BSF has stepped up vigilance along the border in Tripura and mounting surveillance on the activities of touts to break the backbone of the touts module functioning across the border and also arrested over about 373 Bangladeshi nationals and 47 Rohingyas in between July and October while trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
BSF Tripura frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das frequently visits the bordering areas and interacts with the field commanders to ensure security in those areas and stresses using non-lethal weapons to prevent trans-border smuggling and sensitize them about the current situation.
Tripura now shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land-based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes and other issues.
