BSF Mahila Praharis foil major smuggling attempt along India-B'desh border in Tripura
Showing extreme bravery, two women BSF posted at Kamalasagar Border Outpost (BOP) under West Tripura district foiled a major smuggling attempt by Bangladeshi smugglers, resulting in smugglers had to escape from the spot leaving their contraband items.
BSF sources said that in the night intervening 8th and 9th August 2024, two alert BSF Mahila praharis deployed in night ambush noticed some suspicious movement ahead of the fence in the area of border outpost Kamalasagar under West Tripura district. They immediately alerted the troops in the adjoining areas and further intensified the surveillance on the area. After some time, the Mahila praharis observed a large group of miscreants, approximately 30-40 in numbers, on both sides approaching towards the border fencing for smuggling. The groups were having bamboo sticks and sharped edged weapon and carrying sugar in head load.
On seeing this, both the Mahila Constables, without caring for their personal safety, rushed to the area and challenged the miscreants. On being challenged the miscreants equipped with sharp edged weapons adopted an aggressive posture and tried to encircle the Mahila constables and at the same time stones were also being pelted at them. Showing immense presence of mind and nerves of steel the women constables held their ground and effectively retaliated by firing one round from their pump action gun.
Meanwhile reinforcements also rushed in for their assistance.
The timely and brave response made the miscreants retreat back leaving behind the contraband meant for smuggling. Huge quantity of sugar was later recovered in addition to 16 kilograms of Ganja (Cannabis) from the spot. This incident has once again reiterated that Mahila Constables are in no way less than their male counterparts when it comes to operational achievements on the border. IG Tripura Frontier of BSF, Patel Piyush Purushottam Das, while commending this brave act has reiterated the commitment of BSF Tripura in preventing such trans-border crimes. BSF has more than 800 such brave and dedicated Mahila praharis who are guarding the border in Tripura.
