BSF Tripura Frontier hosts first national-level Golf Tournament in Agartala

The first-ever national-level golf tournament in Tripura, the Tripura Open Golf Tournament, was organised at the Tusker BSF Golf Course, located inside the BSF campus at Salbagan, Agartala, on Sunday. The event was held as part of the “Bharat Golf Mahotsava – GFI Tour 2025” and marked a historic milestone in the state’s sporting history.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presided over the inaugural function while Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, graced the closing ceremony. Among those present were Tinku Roy, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier, senior officials from the administration, Aryavir Arya, Founder of the Golf Federation of India (GFI), David Debbarma, President of the Tripura Golf Association (TGA), and players from Tripura and other states, along with personnel from the Army, BSF, Assam Rifles and CRPF.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha appreciated the efforts of the BSF Tripura Frontier for developing a lush green golf course featuring valleys, groves, mounds and water bodies within a short period of time. He also commended the Golf Federation of India and the Tripura Golf Association for bringing such a prestigious national event to the state. He stated that organising such tournaments would inspire the youth of Tripura and also boost tourism in the region.

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu termed the event a truly historic moment for Tripura. He congratulated the Tusker BSF Golf Club, Tripura Golf Association, sponsors, organisers, and participants for making the tournament a grand success. He highlighted that Tripura is naturally well-suited as a golf destination and said that the initiative of BSF Tripura Frontier has fulfilled a long-cherished aspiration of the state.

Earlier, in his welcome address, IG Aloke Kumar Chakraborty expressed gratitude to the Golf Federation of India for organising the tournament in Tripura. He said the event had placed Tripura on India’s golfing map and noted that golf is not only a sport but also a powerful tool to promote both ecology and economy. He described golf courses as “lungs of habitation” that contribute to environmental sustainability and tourism development. He further added that, besides golf, Tripura has immense potential for eco-tourism, water sports, paragliding, parasailing and other adventure sports.

The organisation of the first-ever golf tournament at the Tusker BSF Golf Club marks the beginning of a new era in Tripura’s sporting landscape. The IG urged citizens, especially the youth, to actively participate in sports to maintain a healthy and vibrant lifestyle.
