Chief Minister with CS, DGP to visit Gandacherra on Sunday
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will visit the violence hit Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district on Sunday along with a high-level team of officials which will include the Chief Secretary JK Sinha and Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan. The visit will put a stop to all criticism by the opposition political parties about the role of Chief Minister after communal violence hit Gandacherra.
Sources said that the Chief Minister Dr Saha will visit the house of Parameswar Reang (20), the youth who died on July 12 after he was attacked by some miscreants in the Ananda Mela premises on July 7. The Chief Minister also will visit all violence affected villages like Bish Card, Chair Card, Sath Card, 33-KV, Durgapur, Narayanpur, Pichlighat villages. On July 12, a large number of people attacked these villages and burnt down 40 houses and 30 shops, huge number of properties, vehicles and two-wheelers were either burnt down or severely damaged by the attackers in Ganda Twisa on July 12 after Parameshwar Reang succumbed to his injuries where violence between two communities claimed a life and over 300 villagers were forced to take shelter in the relief camps.
The Chief Minister will visit the Relief Camps where the residents of violence hit villages were sheltered and will talk with them. The Chief Minister also will hold a high level meeting where the officials of various departments including the Chief Secretary and the DGP will remain present.
Sources added that the state government has taken the issue very seriously and decided to take some exemplary steps to send a message to the trouble makers that the state government is not going to succumb to their pressure and such vandalism will not be tolerated. It is learnt that the Union Home Ministry also instructed the state government to take a tough stand so that Manipur can't be repeated in any other Northeastern state.
It is learned that the Chief Minister may declare a housing project for the affected people and also many other compensations.
