CM criticizes CPI (M), Congress of undermining democracy in Tripura

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Friday lashed out at the CPI (M) and Congress for allegedly undermining democracy in the state for the last 35 years and slammed them for unleashing violence and terror.

“Communists destroyed democracy in the state during their nearly 35-year-long rule. And now the Congress is talking about democracy. During their time, the people of the state witnessed only murders, terrorism, arson, and unrest. The BJP-led government has always believed in the democratic system and is working for the overall welfare of the people,” said Dr. Saha.

Dr Saha said this while addressing the Saktiswarupa program organized by the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha in Belonia on Friday.

This election meeting was organized in support of Bharatiya Janata Party-nominated candidate for the West Tripura constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Biplab Kumar Deb.

“The communists often say that democracy has been stolen from Tripura. Let us inform you that communists have a book. Where first of all, it is written that we must run a dictatorship. And how will they run this dictatorship? They want to stay in the government by calling for a revolution with the people of the working class. We have witnessed the democracy that they carried out during their nearly 35-year rule in the state. The people of this state have witnessed incidents of murder, terrorism, arson, rape, etc., during every election,” said Dr Saha.

He said that Congress also says that there is no democracy in the country. What did they do during the emergency?

“From journalists to opposition leaders, those who protested were jailed. And now they are talking about democracy. We have shown how to conduct peaceful elections in the state in 2023. The 2023 assembly poll was peaceful. However, the long rule of the communists and the 5-year rule of the Congress coalition government could not hold elections without incident,” he said.

While addressing the public meeting, the Chief Minister said that communists were proud of scientific rigging and they did not allow reflecting the will of the human mind in different ways.

“Even voting was prevented. In that place, in the 2023 assembly elections, we have shown how to protect democracy. We have shown what democracy is. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taught us how to work for the welfare of people by protecting democracy. Wherever communists have ruled, democracy has been lost. They also ruled West Bengal for many years. And now Trinamool Congress is ruling. Both of them are similar,” he said.

He also slammed the opposition for their misrule and said that the opposition has no more ground under its feet.

“They have no issue. So now they have formed the INDI alliance to save their existence. This is strange politics. Slowly that alliance will also disappear. People understand everything now. People will stay with the government that can ensure security and maintain peace. It is only a matter of time for the victory of BJP candidates,” he concluded.

The meeting was attended by Bharatiya Janata Party state president Rajib Bhattacharya, West Tripura Lok Sabha candidate Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP Mahila Morcha president Mimi Majumdar, and other top leaders.
