CM warns political hooligans and extortionists, newly formed STF will take action against them
The newly formed a Special Task Force (STF) having pan-Tripura jurisdiction in the Crime Branch headed by the SP (Economic Offences) will take action political hooligans and extortionists, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday and warned that the STF, the latest security wing added to the state police, would act tough against them. He admitted that a section of “misguided party (BJP) workers” have resorted to unethical activities and warned them of tough action.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha speaking at inauguration programme of voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Tripura Government Employees Federation (TGEF) at Ujjyayanta Market in Agartala in presence of Agartala City Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Chairperson, Central Zone, AMC, Ratna Dutta, social activist Rajib Bhattacharjee, including office bearers of the TGEF amid the huge presence of voluntary blood donors hailed the organiser and greeted the donors in advance for showing generosity in donating blood for others. He urges everyone to come forward to donate blood without any prejudice. He also urged them to join the pledge and vision of the present government to make the state the best in the country. A total of 84 units of blood were donated. On behalf of the TGEF, veteran leader Samar Roy thanked everyone for making today’s event a grand success. The TGEF is committed to going ahead with the present government’s vision and mission.
Meanwhile, addressing the programme Dr Saha said that the government and the party (BJP) have been repeatedly appealing to and warning those who are committing criminal and unlawful activities. The STF which has been formed under the Crime Branch will also act against them.
The Chief Minister said that the authorities had been repeatedly receiving complaints since the Assembly election held in February last and the state government and the party made repeated appeals to the ‘misguided supporters’ to avoid unlawful means.
Dr. Saha indirectly referred to complaints coming from the opposition parties over “targeted attacks, intimidation and extortion” by a section of ruling party workers. He said that disturbances are still being created in some areas. “In this situation, we have decided to constitute the STF to tackle all means of hooliganism, extortion and mafia activities,” Dr Saha. He also asserted that the government was committed to maintain law and order, and carry forward development activities in every part of the state to achieve overall progress.
It may be recalled here that after inauguration of Tripura police Crime Branch (TPCB) police station on April 24 last, the state police have formed on April 29, a Special Task Force (STF) having pan-Tripura jurisdiction in the Crime Branch headed by the SP (Economic Offences).
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday through his social media said that “A Special Task Force (STF) having pan-Tripura jurisdiction has been formed in the Tripura Police Crime Branch headed by the Superintendent of Police (Economic Offences), with objective to take focused action against organized criminal groups, criminal syndicates, extortion gangs and such other crime.
Police sources added that with both TPCB police station and STF, now the Crime Branch of the state police can act promptly without any assistance from police stations and they can conduct operations secretly in any part of the state to curb drug menaces and to restrain the activities of criminal groups.
