College girl rape: Total four accused arrested

The Agartala city based on scientific evidences on Tuesday has managed to arrest another accused involved in the gang rape of a college girl under Amtali police station.

The sensational gang rape incident was committed on May 10 and after incident came to light, police has arrested the prime accused Goutam Sharma on the next day and within next three days, they have also managed to arrest two more accused. Till today, altogether 4 miscreants were arrested and police said that a few more accused are still on the run and soon they will also be arrested.

On May 11th last, the city police during a raid at the house of another accused Prasenjit Paul of Maheshkhala area under the same police station had recovered Rs. 93 lakh hard cash amount with some incriminating documents in support of batting in IPL cricket tournament and other gambling network.

Giving details, Additional SP (West)  Rajdeep Deb said that the investigation team led by SDPO(Amtali) Ashish Dasgupta are tracking all movements all suspected accused persons and after the crime, one of the accused identified at Jayanta Rauth of Charipara are on the run after the incident and fled away at Assam.

Deb said that police through scientific evidence are tracking his movements and on Tuesday, Jayanta Routh returned back to the state and had tried to escape through Agartala airport.

The investigation team arrested him from Agartala airport complex and with the arrest of Rauth, altogether four accused persons have been arrested.

Earlier, the principal accused person was arrested on May 11th and two other associates were arrested on May 13 and 14 last.

Police sources said that they are taking all necessary legal steps to nab other involved accused persons and hoped that soon all accused persons will be arrested. All arrested miscreants were booked under 376, 376(D) and 328 of IPC.

It may be recalled here that prime accused of the crime and driver of the vehicle Gautam Sharma kidnap the girl on way back to her college on May 10th and after committing the crime, Sharma with his associates dumped the girl an abandoned place along the Bypass road of Agartala on May 11 and she was shifted to GB Hospital in critical condition.

The victim's mother said that her daughter was returning home when accused Gautam Sharma offered her a lift. There were three others in the vehicle, the girl's mother said and alleged that all the four people, including the driver, gang-raped the girl inside the moving vehicle and abandoned her along the Bypass road on next day morning.
