Cong seek ECI intervention to protect their rights for campaigning
Opposition Congress urges the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take preventive measures to protect the democracy and equal rights of campaign for opposition parties in Tripura.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday afternoon, AICC secretary Ms Szarita Laitphlang said that miscreants owing allegiance with ruling party had destroyed number hoarding of INDIA Bloc candidate Ashish Kumar Saha for West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, which were set up after taking permission of state’s Election department.
She alleged that four hoardings in support of Congress candidates were installed in four locations across Agartala, but unfortunately miscreants had ransacked these hoardings and installed hoardings in favour of BJP candidate for West Tripura candidate.
Congress officially lodged its complaint before CEO, Tripura and Returning Officer (RO) of West Tripura and seek protection for opposition campaign, said Szarita Laitphlang and added that the way the campaign material of opposition parties are being destroyed in many parts of the state its ‘killing of democracy’ and the Commission should immediately take steps.
