Congress files FIR against threat' to Mallikarjun Kharge
Jubilant Congress after celebration of massive and landslide victory of the party in Karnataka assembly elections has filed an FIR at West Agartala police station against threats to its all India president Mallikarjun Kharge.
After massive celebration of the party’s victory in Karnataka assembly elections by bursting firecrackers and with drum beats in front of Congress Bhavan in Agartala, hundreds of Congress workers and leaders led by Pradesh Congress president and MLA Birajit Sinha accompanied by MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and former MLAs Ashish Kumar Saha and Diva Chandra Hrangkhwl arrived at West Agartala police station after a short procession raising slogans against BJP.
Then, leaders met the officer-in-charge (OC) of West Agartala police station and filed the FIR.
Later, speaking with media persons said that the Pradesh unit of the party as per instructions of AICC has lodged an FIR against Karnataka BJP leader Manikant Rathore for a purported audio clip wherein Rathore could be heard threatening Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge with dire consequences.
"We are frightened by such an audio clip in which BJP leader Manikant Rathore threatened Mallikarjun Kharge. We could face untoward incidents as the BJP leaders can try to eliminate us by giving contracts to others," Sinha said.
"The BJP leadership can't digest how Kharge, the son of Dalit labourer, became the national President of Congress. The BJP is anguished as the 'Dharti Putra' of Karnataka is getting the support of common people. The BJP is scared of losing the elections in Karnataka," Sinha said.
With the recent assembly elections in Karnataka, Mr Kharge has taken a strong stance against anti-Congress and anti-democratic elements and it has come to our attention that a dirty conspiracy is being brewed to weaken his momentum by threatening his life, the lives of his family members and his son, said Sinha and added that Khrage has received multiple threats over phone calls, which have raised serious concerns about his safety.
Sinha said that they requested the police officials to take immediate action to investigate this matter and ensure safety and security of Kharge and his entire family.
While, in the FIR copy Congress did not mention the name of BJP leader Manikant Rathore, but cited threats on phone calls.
