Couple injured in blast at an apartment near PHQ, Oxygen, Methane gases triggered blast
After passing of considerable time to find out the actual reason for massive blast occurred in a residential flat located at Akhaura road of Agartala near police headquarters, in which a couple suffered critical injuries, when they jumped from the third floor of the multi-storey building on Thursday midnight.
A couple identified as Dr Biswajit Sutradhar and his wife Rupa Sutradhar suffered grievous injuries, when they jumped from a window of a newly built apartment near police headquarters on Thursday night at about 2.45 AM.
Soon after the incident, police, firefighters rushed to the spot and shifted both injured couples to GB Hospital.
With first light of Friday, senior police officials with forensic experts, personnel from electricity department and fire service l were carried out extensive searches in and round the apartment- ‘Shivalaya’ to find out the actual reason from massive blast
Other occupants of the apartment said they heard a massive explosion like sound last night and found the couple was screaming for help on the ground of the building.
However, police could not recover any clues which indicate an explosion took place and they initiated a massive investigation to find out the actual reason for the blast.
SP(West) Kiran Kumar said that during the day-long investigation, the teams of police, forensic experts and explosion specialists could not find anything specific. But, in the evening, the investigation team found an Oxygen cylinder inside the flat, which had started leaking.
The forensic team have also found that Methane gas was flowing inside the toilet of flat after sewerage pipe leaked, said Kiran Kumar and added that so far, the investigation team found that with mixture of Oxygen and Methane gas, the blast occurred and blows a part of the flat wall with massive sound.
He added that a joint team of police, forensic experts, fire service and electricity department had undertaken a day long extensive search inside the structure but could not find any clues about what had happened at the midnight and there were no chemical or any explosion devices, which can create any blast. Finally, forensic experts found that leaked Oxygen with a mixture of Methane gas created the explosion.
However, GB Hospital sources said that the condition of injured Rupa Sutradhar is very critical, while her husband Dr Biswajit Sutradhar is now out of danger.
