CPI (M), Cong met CEO over exit polls by MBB University, demands free and fair counting
A delegation of top leaders of opposition CPI(M) and Congress on Monday evening submit a deputation before the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura to lodge their complaint against MBB University for violating the rules of Election Commission of India (ECI), which has published a election survey report at 1 PM through social media campaign.
The delegation including CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, Left Front convener Narayan Kar , senior Congress leaders Sudip Roy Barman and Ashish Kumar Saha met the CEO, Kiran Gitte at his office chamber in Election department on Monday evening and had detailed discussion over some exit polls and demanded free and fair counting of polled votes.
Later, speaking with media persons Jitendra Chaudhury said that they are not disclosing all details discussed with the CEO and claimed that ruling party BJP continues framing conspiracies one after one fearing their defeat in the polls.
He said before the counting of polled votes, the ruling utilizing their administrative power illegally involved the MBB University has published opinion polls with money of people.
“Earlier, we with the intervention of CEO has stopped their opinion poll survey, but since today afternoon , a survey report and exit poll released by the MBB University are in social media before stipulated time frame by ECI and claimed that BJP is winning in 47 seats,” said Chaudhury and added that they never heard that a government university can conduct exit polls for the interest of ruling party by utilizing public fund.
He said that MBB University in association with ‘Praccis’, a Delhi based research institute conducted the ‘fake’ survey, which is a direct violation of ECI rules. Chaudhury said that the CEO assured them , his office will showcase the MBB University authority for their such campaign.
While, Sudip Roy Barman said that they have in detail informed the CEO over conspiracies of the ruling party and added that they as parties are also ready to give befitting reply to all conspiracies.
“We urged the CEO and ECI to ensure free and fair counting of polled votes and what we got information over the conspiracies of BJP just shared with CEO,” said Sudip and added that CEO assured them there are no chance of tempering the verdict of people in EVMs and all steps would be taken to ensure free and fair counting.
