CPI (M) praise Pradyot’s effort to start Kokborok announcement in Airport
Prasing the endavour of Tipra-Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma to resume Kokborok announcement in Agartala airport by writing a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and reply by the ministry, opposition claimed that it’s a direct insult of the people of Tripura.
Addressing a press conference here at CIP(M) headquarters on Friday evening, party’s state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury accompanied by two senior leaders Ratan Bhowmik and Naresh Jamatia said that the way Union Ministry handed over the issues of announcement in Kokborok language to Airport Authority of India (AAI), ‘it’s an insult to 13 lakh indigenous population of Tripura’.
He said that when he was the MP (Lok Sabha) in 16th Parliament on April 8th. 2016 raised the issue in the floor of the parliament to start the announcement in railways stations and in Agartala airport and after a few days, the both Union Ministry of Railways and Civil Aviation informed through letter that they will start the announcement in Kokborok language. But, without any reason the same Modi government has stopped the announcement in Agartala airport in the year 2019.
Recently, the Tipra-Motha chairman again raised the issue and urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to resume the announcement. But, the Minister through his reply to Pradyot Kishore had cited the matter depend on the AAI, said Chowdhury and added that it reflected the ‘double standard’ of Modi government and they insulted the entire population of Tripura.
He said that during the first Left Front government as assured to the people has gave state language status to Kokborok on June 19th, 1979 by passing a Bill in the Assembly and since then Kokborok has been used as one of the official languages of the state.
Chowdhury alleged that BJP and RSS only know the ‘Hindu-Hindi and Hindustan’ and often they deprive the rights of indigenous people. He added that they will soon again raise the issue and will create a public movement across the state against their deliberate denial of people’s rights .
Chowdhury also slammed three BJP MPs for their silent attitude towards the rights and respect to the indigenous people of the state.
He criticized the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb over their silent state on continuous attacks on media and suppressing the voices of the fourth pillar of democracy. Chowdhury the celebration of ‘National Press Day’ on November 16, both the incumbent and former does not utter any word over the suffocating environment prevailing across the state during the past 56 months and had not assured anything to protect the rights of media.
