CPI (M) starts mass collection of funds for distress people of Wayanad
In a show of camaraderie and humanitarian effort, opposition CPI(M) leaders and party members on Saturday launched a week-long fund collection to support the people of Kerala’s Wayanad where devastating landslides claimed over 366 lives with 206 remained missing.
On Saturday, former Chief Minister and CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar, former Minister Manik Dey and former Lok Sabha member Sankar Prasad Datta led a donation collection drive in Agartala to raise funds for the affected people of Wayanad district.
Sarkar said that as part of the solidarity, the CPI (M) launched the fund collection drive for the hapless people of Wayanad and such a drive would be undertaken across the state.
He said that Wayanad district of Kerala was totally destroyed in the massive landslide and Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan appeals to the people of the country to support them for rehabilitation of people in distress. Responding to the call, the CPI (M) in Tripura started collection of relief funds, said Sarkar and added that the people of Tripura always stand with people in distress and hoped that they will be able to collect a good amount and will send the same to the Kerala government.
Tripura Leader of Opposition (LoP) and CPI (M) state Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said that the party state committee earlier decided to donate Rs 10 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s relief fund for the relief of the landslides affected people of Wayanad.
“We urge upon the people of Tripura to donate money generously for the support of the distressed people of Wayanad,” Chaudhury told the media.
