CPI(M) State Secretary writes to Tripura CM seeking action on political violence
After being disallowed to discuss the matter of post-poll violence in the assembly on Friday, CPI-M State Secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury wrote to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, seeking his direction to police to act upon each and every incident of political violence irrespective of party affiliation.
The opposition leaders, workers, and supporters have not only been affected by post-election terror in the state, but BJP-backed miscreants are looting opposition party offices in broad daylight in presence of police. As a result, anti-socialists are busy taking away people's right to live. Unfortunately, the issues were not allowed to discuss in the house, Chaudhury alleged.
Thousands of opposition leaders, workers, supporters, and party offices across the state were vandalized and set on fire since March 2018. Every day these attacks are taking place on houses, party offices, vandalism, and looting of valuables but the officers in charge of the police stations have been silent spectators.
Referring to two specific incidents that took place in Santirbazar in South Tripura and Udaipur of Gomati districts recently, Chaudhury stated that an unknown person posing himself to be BJP leader along with some labourers lifted Iron bars stacked inside the CPI(M) office in Santirbazar on March 21 last.
The party office was closed due to the terror unleashed by miscreants of the BJP across the area after counting of votes, labourers broke into the office and loaded the iron bars.
The party workers informed the matter to the local police station. Although police went there, not prevented looting but paved the way for lifting the materials, which were kept for the construction of the party office for five years.
“If such broad daylight robbery of the opposition party the property does not find legal redress, it may be termed as state-sponsored grabbing of property by some vested interest,” the letter reads.
Similarly, in CPI-M Udaipur Sub-Divisional office a group of BJP workers put a lock on the door of the office, keeping the party leaders inside at around 12 noon on March 23 last.
Police, however, removed the lock and rescued the party leaders but arrested none despite specific complaints.
