Daily wage worker dies after being buried in soil collapse; family left devastated
In a tragic incident, a daily wage worker lost his life after being buried under a sudden soil collapse on Saturday, leaving his family in deep grief and uncertainty.
The incident took place in Ekinpur area under Siddhinagar Tehsil of Rajnagar Assembly Constituency. According to reports, Ratan Bhowmik, a poor labourer by profession, was digging soil at his residence on Friday when a sudden landslide occurred, completely burying him underneath.
On receiving information, Disaster Management Officer and DCM, Sanjoy Shil and officials of the sub-divisional administration rushed to the spot. A dredger from the Public Works Department (PWD) was brought in to remove the soil, after which Ratan Bhowmik’s body was recovered.
The body has been sent to Niharnagar Primary Health Centre for post-mortem examination.
Ratan Bhowmik was the sole earner of his family. His untimely death has left the family helpless. His wife broke down in tears at the scene, while their two children—a son studying in Class V and a daughter in Class XII—now face an uncertain future regarding their education and livelihood.
DCM Sanjoy Shil, who was present at the site, assured that the administration would extend all possible assistance to the bereaved family as per government norms. The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality.
