Delivery boy severely thrashed by jawan for refusing to deliver parcel at undesignated address
Within a week of the tragic death of delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar (23), who allegedly died by suicide on December 14 after being publicly humiliated and assaulted, another shocking incident of violence against a delivery worker has come to light in Tripura.
On Sunday afternoon, a delivery boy was allegedly brutally assaulted by a jawan at Narayanpur Bazar in West Tripura district for refusing to deliver a parcel at an address different from the one mentioned.
According to sources, the delivery boy, identified as Rupam Saha, reached Narayanpur Bazar near the Bandhan Bank branch to deliver a parcel addressed to a jawan of the security forces posted at Agartala Airport. Upon arrival, Rupam contacted the recipient using the phone number provided on the parcel. However, the jawan reportedly refused to receive the parcel at the specified address and attempted to force the delivery boy to deliver it at an alternative location of his choice.
When the delivery boy declined to comply, the accused jawan allegedly abused him using racial slurs. A few minutes later, the jawan reportedly arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and physically assaulted the delivery boy in full public view, leaving him seriously injured.
Local residents immediately rushed to the scene, intervened, and detained the accused jawan. Subsequently, local traders and fellow courier workers handed him over to the Airport Police Station. A formal complaint was also lodged, demanding strict action and justice for the injured delivery boy. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
