Devastating fire: Three houses reduced to ashes in Kailashahar, 3 farming families left destitute
In a devastating fire incident, three residential houses were completely gutted, leaving three farming families homeless and destitute. The incident took place at Balucherra village under Ward No. 5 of Ichabpur Gram Panchayat of Kailashahar under Unakoti district.
Sources said that three brothers—Islam Uddin, Hojjatul Islam, and Nurul Islam—who are farmers by profession, had recently constructed separate houses and were living independently. The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon when the brothers were not at home. Only their wives and children were present in the houses at the time.
As soon as the women noticed the flames, they raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the spot. The three brothers also hurried back upon receiving the news. The Fire Service in Kailashahar was immediately informed, and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.
However, by then, extensive damage had already been done. Gold ornaments, cash amounting to approximately Rs 1 lakh, expensive bedding, stored paddy, valuable furniture, and all household belongings were completely destroyed in the fire. Even the tin roofs of the houses were burnt. Importantly, all original documents and certificates belonging to the families were also reduced to ashes.
Local BJP leaders visited the site after the incident. Among them were advocate and BJP leader Sandeep Debroy, advocate Bijit Das, Unakoti District Yuva Morcha president Arup Dhar, along with party workers Fuzail Ali, Jewel Ahmed, Panchayat members Arjan Ali, Ansar Ali, and others. They spoke with the affected families and assessed the situation.
Following the visit, the leaders informed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tehsildar, and officials of the Agriculture department. The Tehsildar later visited the site and documented the extent of the damage.
Advocate Sandeep Debroy speaking with media persons said that the preliminary cause of the fire appears to be an electrical short circuit. He added that the families have lost everything and are left with no basic belongings, not even clothes to wear. He assured that the party would coordinate with the administration to arrange permanent housing for the affected families at the earliest, along with necessary assistance.
