Drugs worth of Rs 25 cr seized in Tripura; 2 held

Tripura police seized 2.212 kilograms Heroin valued at Rs 25 crore and two drug peddlers were arrested on Monday from North Tripura district.
North Tripura district superintendent of police Bhanupada Chakraborty said that based on a secret information, Officer-in-Charge of Damchera police station, adjoining Mizoram, has intercepted a vehicle and recovered the 2.212 kg heroin contained in 177 plastic cases.
He said that two drug peddlers -- Sahidul Rahaman (35) and Jasim Uddin (36) were arrested and both are residents of bordering Sonamura under Sepahijala district.
Another police official said that the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar and brought to Tripura via Mizoram and intended to smuggle Bangladesh.
With 856 km international borders, Tripura is almost surrounded by Bangladesh on almost four sides.
