National Law University Tripura (NLUT), in collaboration with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Tripura Campus, organised a one-day workshop on “Forensic Evidence and the Indian Criminal Justice System” at the NLUT Campus.
The workshop brought together legal and forensic perspectives on the growing role of scientific evidence in criminal investigation and the administration of justice. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLUT, who highlighted the importance of understanding forensic evidence from both legal and practical perspectives.
Dr. H. K. Pratihari, Campus Director, NFSU Tripura Campus, addressed the gathering and conducted a technical session on “Forensic Evidence Detected in Crime and Some Interesting Case Studies,” focusing on its practical application in criminal investigations. B. Badoniya, Professor of Practice, NFSU Tripura Campus, followed with a session on “Some Controversial Case Studies of Forensic Relevance.”
The final technical session, “Forensic Evidence in the Indian Criminal Justice System: Admissibility, Evidentiary Value and Judicial Interpretation,” was conducted by Dr. Jayanta Dhar, Registrar I/C, NLUT, focusing on the legal treatment and judicial interpretation of forensic evidence. The sessions were followed by an interactive discussion, enabling participants to engage with the speakers and explore practical and legal dimensions of forensic evidence.
Around 100 participants from various institutions participated in the workshop. The workshop concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Suchitra Tripura, Ph.D. Scholar, NLUT, followed by the National Anthem. The workshop provided a valuable platform for meaningful interaction between the legal and forensic disciplines, fostering a deeper understanding of the role of scientific evidence in the Indian criminal justice system.
