The 43rd foundation day of the Left youth organization Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) was observed across the state through rallies, voluntary blood donation camps and street meetings. But, the observation of the day also witnessed political clashes among the supporters of both ruling BJP and opposition CPI(M).
On Thursday morning opposition leader Manik Sarkar inaugurated a blood donation camp at Bardowali CPI(M) office in Agartala organized by the Dukli divisional committee of DYFI, where about 50 blood units were donated by the youth activities. In the evening, hundreds of DYFI activists organized a torch bearing procession in Agartala, which passed through different thoroughfares of Agartala city.
But, in the morning during observance of the day through a voluntary blood donation camp held at the house of CPI(M) Belonia subdivisional committee secretary Tapash Datta in Belonia, miscreants attacked his house and ransacked his house properties. Miscreants had also started stone pelting targeting the houses and entire tin made boundary walls of the house ransacked.
After the incident was reported, police forces rushed to the and tried to defuse the tension. While, when DYFI workers resumed their blood donation camp, agin miscreants led some local BJP leaders arrived at the spot and tried to attack again. But, a large number of DYFI workers defying all threat and intimidation continued the blood donation programme and when they received united resistance , escaped from the spot.
Speaking with media persons, CPI(M) leader Tapash Datta alleged that local BJP leader Ashesh Baidya led the attack on his house and it’s a shame for the ruling party that they are not allowing humanitarian activities like voluntary blood donation camp.
He said that CPI(M) workers tolerated them enough, now time has come to resist the violent politics of ruling BJP and they will continue their social activities and will resist miscreants unitedly.
Opposition leader Manik Sarkar also strongly condemned the attack at Tapash Datta’s house and claimed that the police act was impartial.
