DYFI staged mass demonstration in front of PHQ, demands concrete measure to restore law and order
Activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) , the youth wing of opposition CPI(M) on Tuesday organized a mass protest in front of police headquarters and submitted their deputation before a top official of state police raising their concern over growing incidents of crime against women and deteriorating law and order situation across the state.
After their protest, a delegation of DYFI leaders including state unit president Palash Bhowmik, secretary Nabarun Deb and three other members of the state committee including Mallika Shil, Monali Saha and Bulti Begum met the DIG(law and order) inside the police headquarters and submitted their memorandum.
Later, speaking with media persons DYFI leaders expressing their concern over the law and order situation across the state alleged that teachers, artists, journalists, doctors, and police officers are among those affected by miscreants in different parts of the state with rising activities of hooliganism They said that forceful subscription, extortion, mafia and other miscreants activities are a daily phenomenon in Tripura.
“The situation in Tripura has spiraled out of control. Day by day, the attacks are growing in intensity, and the common people are the ones paying the price,” a DYFI leader said during the protest. “Mafia terrorism and extortion have resurfaced, and the state is slipping into chaos,” he added.
The DYFI leaders in the memorandum claimed that the crime against women including girl students are increasing day by day and even the girls in the capital city of Agartala are not secured.
They said “We are deeply concerned by the escalating violence in Tripura and in March 2020, a 22-year-old woman was raped and burned to death in Mohanpur, yet no justice has been served in that case, such type of incidents encourage criminals activities.”
The DYFI leaders during their protest also raised the issues of drug menaces and claimed that due to increasing addiction among the youth, thousands of families are being destroyed. They also expressed their serious concern over poor action against drug smugglers and demanded immediate restore law and order across the state, measures to protect students, young women, and the public and concrete measures to stop drug abuses and stringent action against drug smugglers.
The DYFI leaders have also vowed to continue their protest across the state until the government takes decisive action to address most concerning issues of the state.
