ECI takes cognizance over Majlishpur violence, CEO appeals all parties to cooperate for zero poll
Taking a strong step against political violence held at Jirania among supporters of BJP and Congress, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the CEO, Tripura to obtain report from the Chief Secretary and DGP of Tripura and to submit the report before ECI by Friday 3 PM.
The violence, which took place in four separate places under Majlishpur assembly constituency soon after announcement of poll schedules, at least 15 political party supporters including AICC in-charge for Tripura Dr Ajoy Kumar suffered injuries and were hospitalized.
After the incident both CPI(M) and Congress lodged their complaint before the ECI against BJP for creating violence and attack in a Congress’s motorbike rally.
While with a clarion calls to all political parties to ensure ‘zero poll violence’, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura urges parties to cooperate with the Election Commission of India (ECI) for free and fair elections.
Addressing a press conference here at the conference hall of DM(West) on Thursday evening, CEO Kiran Gitte accompanied by DM and SP of West Tripura district said that for maintaining Model Code of Conduct(MCC), the Election department held meeting with representatives of eight political parties.
He said that all the violence related incidents are being monitored by ECI and ensure immediate steps through legal action. The Commission is continuously giving its best efforts to stop violence and committed to the people of the state to ensure zero violence.
He appealed to all political parties and their party workers to cooperate with ECI to ensure the voting rights of all voters through peace. Kitte said that a large number of Central Arms Police Forces (CAPFs) have already arrived in the state and more companies are coming and there will be no shortage of security forces.
He said that meetings have been conducted with political parties for strict compliance of MCC and ECI has already started its works and in the first phase of MCC, all flags and festoons of political parties have been removed from government properties.
Giving reply to media queries, Gitte said that an objectionable incident was held at Kamalpur, in which one Pranajit Namasudhra was murdered for old rivalry and four accused persons were so far arrested. The police are taking strong action and confirmed that it's not a political murder, but the unfortunate incident held for old rivalry. Gitte also said that for the unfortunate violence incident held at Jirania on wednesday, so far police has arrested 8 accused persons.
