Eight more Bangladeshi, two Indian touts arrested from Agartala rail station
Keeping in view of ongoing unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh and strengthening of border security by BSF to stop any attempt of infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements has no impact in Tripura as influx by Bangladeshi and Rohingyas continues and unabated.
Within the last five days above 50 Bangladesh nationals, Rohingyas including women, transgender and touts, were arrested by the security forces from different parts of the state and the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura unabated.
In its latest edition, the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel posted at Agartala Railway station arrested 8 Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts from Agartala Railway station for entering India illegally on Thursday evening.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Agartala station, Tapash Das said that eight more Bangladeshi nationals including women were arrested on Thursday evening at the Agartala railway station as they were trying to board a train to travel to other Indian states via Guwahati.
The Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 19 years to 38 years and residents of Bangladesh's different districts, said Tapash Das and added that they came to India in search of jobs.
Arrested persons were identified as Sahadat Hussan (28) of Chittagong district, Trisha Akther (19) of Mymensingh district, Shapla Akther (22) of Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh, Raju Ahamed (21) of Rajshahi district, Sahalam (31) of Rajshahi, Sukurdi Shek (38) of Rajshahi, Md. Biplab (19) and Karim Sheikh (35) of Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
Arrested two Indian touts were identified as Ratan Paul (55) and Sukla Sarkar (28) of Sepahijala district of Tripura.
A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said that the paramilitary forces are cracking down heavily on the illegal migration by Bangladeshi nationals and have stepped up the vigil in close coordination with sister agencies in the border area.
Following the direction of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the BSF has stepped up its drive against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and all field formations are actively breaking down the nexus of touts in the bordering areas and simultaneously, security forces have also arresting Bangladeshi and Rohingyas daily from different parts of the state.
It may be recalled here that Tripura Frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das said that 95 percent of the 856 km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura has already been fenced, while fencing work is going on in the remaining 27.5 km.
A BSF spokesman said that to maintain close coordination with Bangladesh border guarding forces, during July, in addition to the Inspector General BSF-Region Commander BGB level conference, four Commandant level flag meetings and 150 Company Commander/Border Out Post (BOP) level meetings with BGB were held.
Over the last two-and-a-half months, more than 160 Bangladeshi nationals and 32 Rohingyas were arrested by the GRP, BSF and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and various other places in Tripura after they illegally entered India.
Officials said that all the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas illegally entered Tripura to board trains or buses to go to other states in India “in search of jobs”.
During the past few weeks, Bangladesh witnessed waves of deadly violence and clashes during the quota reform protests claiming the lives of over 170 people and injuring over a thousand.
