The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted simultaneous searches at the residential and commercial premises of a local trader in Agartala in connection with suspected illegal financial transactions and cross-border activities.
Assisted by central security personnel, ED teams launched coordinated operations early Wednesday morning at the residence of trader Shahjahan Miah in the Western Club area along Akhaura Road under West Agartala police station, while a separate team searched his business establishment in Battala Market.
Agency sources indicated that the operation stems from allegations involving unauthorized financial transactions, suspected foreign monetary dealings, and potential links to cross-border narcotics networks. Miah had reportedly been placed under surveillance for several days preceding the operation.
The central agency executed the searches independently, without prior involvement of the Tripura Police. Officials questioned Miah at both locations as part of the preliminary inquiry.
Speaking to reporters during the searches, Miah stated that he was unaware of the specific grounds for the agency's action.
While no major material seizures were confirmed by Wednesday afternoon, investigators confiscated several documents and records for forensic and financial examination. The ED has not yet released an official statement as the probe continues.
