Fatal road mishap in Sonamura claims two lives, child among victims
A tragic road accident in Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district cast a shadow of grief on the first day of the Bengali New Year, claiming the lives of two persons, including a four-year-old child, and leaving a woman critically injured.
Sources said that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the state was celebrating Poila Boishakh. An e-rickshaw, driven by Pradip Das, was heading towards the Shobabazar area along the Sonamura–Belonia route when it collided head-on with a speeding Max Jeep.
Pradip Das died on the spot due to the impact, while two passengers—Selina Aktar and her four-year-old son, Mohammad Sami—sustained critical injuries.
Fire and emergency service personnel promptly rushed the injured to Sonamura Hospital. Doctors there declared the e-rickshaw driver brought dead, while the injured mother and child were referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
However, the critically injured child succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Police have seized both vehicles involved in the accident, though the driver of the Max Jeep remains absconding. An investigation into the incident is underway.
