A tragic incident stemming from a family dispute has been reported from North Rangamura under Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district, where a man allegedly died after being struck with a stick by his son. The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality.

According to police and local sources, the deceased has been identified as Ayakhi Ray Tripura. The accused, Samir Tripura, was allegedly addicted to intoxicants and frequently engaged in quarrels and physically assaulted his father while under the influence.

On Saturday, during another altercation, Samir allegedly hit his father with a stick. The blow reportedly landed on Ayakhi Ray Tripura’s chest, causing him to collapse and die on the spot.

After receiving information about the incident, police from Jatrapur police station rushed to the scene. SDPO Shashi Mohan Debbarma also visited the spot. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The accused, Samir Tripura, has been arrested and is currently in the custody of Jatrapur police station. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary of Kathalia Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination.

The incident has once again raised concerns among a section of local residents over the growing menace of substance abuse in the hilly areas of Tripura. However, police said they are examining all aspects of the case to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
