Fisheries Minister inaugurates  4-days fisheries festival

The 4-day International Conference on Responsible Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries Interact (RASHI) and Fisheries Festival has started on Tuesday  at the College of Fisheries located at Lembucherra.

The International Conference and Fisheries Festival have been organized on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the College of Fisheries. The Festival was inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Prem Kumar Reang. Fisheries Scientists from India, Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan took part in the conference. The conference will be conducted on 6 topics – Fisheries Resource and Sustainability, Innovation for Nutritional Securities, Genome to Phenome in Aquatics, Healthy Aquatics for Wealthy Fish, Aqua Resource Utilization: Net to Mouth and Smart Fisher for Advanced Society etc. There will also be Satellite Meets.

The Fisheries Minister in the programme said, the alumnus of the college are earning good name around the world with their expertise. He hoped the college will play an important role in forming a successful career for the students in future also. Chief Guest of the programme and Fisheries Minister, Government of Manipur Heikham Dingo Singh said, the average production of fish in Northeastern states is less than the production all over the country. The fish farmers face difficulties in fish farming due to geographical conditions and environment. He also said, fish is a great source of protein for our bodies, which is why production of fish is playing an important part in the country’s economy and lifestyle presently. He said, initiatives are being taken to continue fish farming in the country through advanced and scientific ways. Lauding the College of Fisheries and its faculties, he said, the college has earned its name in providing education at present.

Students, professors, researchers, Fisheries officials and fish farmers of different states of the country have been felicitated in 12 different categories in the inaugural programme. An abstract book on RASHI-2022, silver jubilee wall calendar, table calendar, practice book, innovation book and souvenirs etc. were unveiled in the programme. Other dignitaries present in the inaugural programme were MLA Krishnadhan Das, Chief Executive, NFDB, Hyderabad Dr. C. Suvarna and Vice Chancellor of CAU, Imphal Dr. Anupam Mishra. Welcome speech was delivered by Dean of College of Fisheries Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha.
