Forest Minister files defamation case against a Tipra Motha MLA over alleged derogatory remark
Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma has filed a defamation suit against his party MLA Ranjit Debbarma, alleging that the latter made false and derogatory remarks against him.
The petition has been filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in West Tripura, according to the minister’s counsel.
In his petition, the Forest Minister alleged that Tipra-Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma made objectionable comments against him during the campaign for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
According to the complaint, the MLA accused Animesh Debbarma of purchasing “two flats and a plot” and claimed that discussions were underway to buy another flat in Delhi.
Rejecting the allegations, the minister’s advocate Sankar Lodh said, these claims are completely false and fabricated
He further stated that Ranjit Debbarma had also accused the minister of staying in forest bungalows to attend parties with a few women, calling the allegation baseless.
The court is scheduled to take up the defamation petition for hearing on April 30, Lodh said.
Meanwhile, Ranjit Debbarma denied the allegations, asserting that he did not name any minister during his campaign speeches on March 29 and April 9 and added that he will clarify his stand once the defamation notice is served to him.
