Tripura police on Saturday during their anti-drug operations in different parts of the state have achieved major success by arresting four drug peddlers including two women from Assam state and recovered huge quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja) and Phensedyl cough syrups.
Police sources said that two female drug peddlers from Karimganj district of Assam, were arrested by Lefunga police station while transporting cannabis purchased from under the nose of the Sidhai Mohanpur. They were caught during a routine police check in Lembucherra area of West Tripura district from a passenger bus.
Giving details OC of Lembucherra police station, Sahadeb Das said that during routine checking of vehicles at Lembucherra Naka point, police detained a passenger bus and during checking at that bus, they detained two suspected women with their big bags and found a total of 20 kilograms of dry Ganja under their possessions.
According to reports, the women had bought cannabis from a known drug dealer named Rakesh Sarkar in Shanitola, under Mohanpur in Sidhai police station’s jurisdiction. They were traveling towards Agartala in a passenger bus bearing registration number TR 01 C 1306 when police conducted a search and recovered 20 kilograms of cannabis from their possession.

As per the Indian identity documents recovered from them, their names are Mampi Deb and Jhimli Deb, although police suspect their Aadhaar cards to be fake. It has become clear that they are part of a larger drug trafficking network, said OC.
