G-20 Summit: We must collectively work towards greenifying our Earth for future generation, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma
The two-day G-20 Science Summit, which commenced in Agartala on Monday, will continue till April 4.
This summit was organized for the first time in Tripura with the theme of ‘Clean Energy for Greener Future’ at the In-door Exhibition Hall of International Fair Ground, Hapania.
While, in the face of rising concern for climate change the delegates of G-20 member states have met today at Agartala, Tripura to discuss various aspects of climate change and sustainable development. Three themes considered at the today’s S-20 conference, a part of G-20, were green hydrogen, energy from ocean and storage of energy, said Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, President of Indian National Science Academy and former secretary of department of Science and Technology of Union government at a press meet soon after the conference.
Addressing the media he said, scientists of 10 countries of G-20 were physically present here on Monday to give their inputs on the issue and other member states have provided their inputs in different forms. He said, the G-20 aims to achieve sustainable development goals keeping its major theme i.e. one earth, one family and one future ahead, as this is a global challenge. Emphasizing on the need for having cleaner energy for greener future Prof. Sharma said that new methods have to be developed to store energy and all G-20 countries have to work together on this goal. Appreciating the kind of culture and handicrafts Tripura has, he added that our motto should be to think globally and apply it in a local context.
Speaking to the media Prof. Ajoy Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India also referred to the efforts being put in by the government of India to produce green hydrogen. In that direction the government of India launched the Green Hydrogen Mission worth Rs. 18,000 crore also under the Ministry of Renewable Energy. Actually the goal behind this mission is to achieve Net zero carbon emission by 2070. Secretary of industries and commerce department of Tripura government, Abhishek Chandra also spoke on the possibility of exploring partnership to get technology from outside to facilitate industries and innovation in Tripura. The speakers at the press meet also spoke in favour of producing green hydrogen from biomass in view of the abundance of bamboo resources in Tripura.
Meanwhile, the Indian representative of the G-20 Prof. Narinder Mehra said, the hospitality of Tripura has touched their hearts. The whole world must collectively work towards greenifying the Earth for the future generation. Every one of us must unite to reach a certain goal by taking new innovative initiatives. He emphasized upon making the most of the opportunity in this conference taking everyone along.
In the beginning of the conference, Principal Scientific Advisor of the Union government, Prof. Ajay Sood said, clean energy plays a significant role in industrialization. It is essential to take apt steps to resolve the issues regarding clean energy. Matters as to how clean energy can be produced without polluting the environment must be thought upon. Today’s Conference will help make policies in concerned areas and resolve different issues within a bounded time period. He also emphasized upon using Green Hydrogen in the Clean energy sector.
Presiding over the G-20 Summit Conference on behalf of India, the representatives shed light on climate change. Research and innovative initiatives on producing clean energy are the important matters at present. Brazil representative in the conference said, ‘we must all stand against climate change.’ He lauded the hospitality of the state. Representatives of G-20 countries, Indonesia also took part in the conference via video conferencing. Representatives of G-20 countries including Indian representatives and scientists took part in the Conference.
It may be recalled here that India holds the Presidency of the G-20 from December 1st, 2022 to November 30th, 2023 for bringing together the G-20 agenda in consultation with other members and in response to developments in the global economy.
Leading the summit, India will have around 200 meetings and seminars across 56 venues pan India. In these meetings, delegates from around 29 countries and 15 international organizations would participate.
