Governor visits Khowai border areas, express resentment for unprotection

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu during his visit to the India–Bangladesh international border along the Poharmura-Kherangbari in Khowai district to inspect several parts of the unprotected border have expressed his anger over being unprotected by BSF.

During the visit, the Governor observed that in many places there are no border fences or wire barriers and he also saw that large stretches of the Khowai area remain open and unprotected. The Governor expressed concern over such a scenario on the international border and discussed the issue with senior police officials. He was accompanied by SP, Ranaditya Das and other police officials.

Local residents informed the Governor that Bangladeshi citizens often cross the border illegally through these unfenced regions. Many villagers alleged that in areas on the Indo-Bangla border, people from Bangladesh come across to collect firewood, grass, and other resources, and return freely. Such movement, they said, has been continuing for years.

Officials later mentioned that fencing work in those parts is still incomplete. Police officers also stated that illegal infiltration occurs occasionally due to the open borders.

Governor also visited the District Magistrate (DM) office of Khowai, where DM , Rajat Pant and other officials welcomed him.

After a brief stop at the circuit house, the Governor began his border inspection tour and he traveled through the India–Bangladesh border areas of Paharmura, Gournagar, Belcherra, Bagabil and Khengrabari and through border roads reached Sidhai area of West Tripura district.

He reviewed developmental activities in the border regions and said that as per the directive of the Prime Minister, during the past three days he visited border areas of North Tripura, Unakoti and Dhalai district to review the progress of the state and central developmental projects.

The Governor announced plans to visit eight more border villages in Khowai district next month to inspect education, health services, drinking water, electricity, and overall infrastructure. He also said that the central government is actively working to strengthen rural development and basic amenities in Tripura’s border areas.
