In a major initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare services in rural areas and accelerating the overall development of South Tripura, the state government has taken steps to establish a modern medical college in the Jolaibari Assembly constituency.

As part of the public welfare vision of Tribal Welfare, PVTG and Minority Development Minister and Jolaibari MLA Shukla Charan Noatia, the proposed project is being planned under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) with central assistance.

A high-level delegation on Monday visited two potential sites for the proposed medical college.

The team first inspected an area adjacent to the Devdaru Primary Health Centre under the Jolaibari Assembly constituency. Later, the delegation visited the old horticulture garden at Kolshi and held detailed discussions regarding the suitability of the site for setting up the medical college.

The inspection team included Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Jolaibari BAC Chairman Ashok Mog, Minority Development department director Nirmal Adhikari, South Tripura District Magistrate(DM) Mohammad Sajad P, South District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, Shantirbazar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tarun Kanti Sarkar, Jolaibari BDO Nababrata Dutta, and officials from various departments.

Speaking after the inspection, Minister Noatia said that if suitable land is identified and finalized at the earliest, it would pave the way for the implementation of this significant central government project in Jolaibari.

He emphasized that a medical college would not only improve the quality of healthcare services in the region but also contribute significantly to education, employment generation, transportation facilities and the growth of the local economy.

Experts believe that establishing a medical college in a rural area would provide advanced healthcare facilities to people living across a vast surrounding region. It would also promote medical education and strengthen healthcare infrastructure, opening new avenues for the overall development of South Tripura.

If implemented, the project is expected to become one of the state’s most significant healthcare infrastructure initiatives and mark a new chapter in the developmental history of the Jolaibari Assembly constituency. Local residents believe that the long-standing public welfare vision and development-oriented efforts of Minister Shukla Charan Noatia have significantly brightened the prospects of turning this dream project into reality.
