Huge quantities of dry Ganja seized from Sonamura, one smuggler arrested
In continuation of anti-drug operations, the Sonamura police station of Sepahijala district on Tuesday achieved major success by seizing huge quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja) worth above rupees one crore and arresting one drug peddler.
Soon after joining as new officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Tapash Das, who achieved tremendous success in anti-drug operations and against illegal migrants, when he was OC of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala Railway station, continues his war against drug smuggling in Sepahijala district also and in a night long three separate operations, Tapash Das and his team have seized a total of 583 kilograms of Ganja, worth above rupees one crore and arrest a smuggler.
Das, speaking with media persons, said that on Monday late night, on the basis of secret information conducted a raid and searched in the deep forest of Dhanirampur area and recovered and seized a total 386 kg dry Ganja which was kept in nine plastic drums, as unclaimed.
After that seized it after observing all legal formalities as unclaimed, the police station has started an investigation as to who could be the owner of this illegal ganja, said Das and seized drugs have market value of Rs. 77 lakh.
In another operation, during patrolling duty at Batadola area near Indo-Bangla , police recovered a total of 56 kg dry Ganja which was kept into 14 packets which were covered by brown color tapes , as unclaimed.
Police seized these Ganja packets after observing all legal formalities as unclaimed and started an investigation as to who could be the owner of this illegal ganja, worth about Rs. 11.20 lakh.
In the third operation in the wee hours of Tuesday, police have arrested one drug peddler, Indra Kumar Debbarma (60) from his residence at Dhanirampur village under same police station and recovered a total of 141 kilograms of dry Ganja, worth of Rs. 28.20 lakh under his possession.
Police registered a specific case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and arrested drug smuggler, Indra Kumar Debbarma will produce before a local court with police remand appeal for further interrogation.
