In a major anti-narcotics operation, police seized 31 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) concealed inside a plastic drum and arrested the owner of the house, Swadesh Chandra Das, during a late-night raid at North Maheshpur Colony Para under the Kathalia block of Sepahijala district.

Police sources said that the raid was carried out at the residence of Swadesh Chandra Das based on specific intelligence inputs. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrapur police station, Parthanath Bhowmik personally led the operation, accompanied by police and TSR personnel.

Speaking to reporters, OC Bhowmik said that during the search of the house, the police recovered a plastic drum containing 31 kg of dry Ganja. The accused was found inside the house at the time of the raid and was immediately taken into custody along with the seized contraband.

The accused and the recovered narcotics were brought to Jatrapur police station the same night. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the arrested accused has been produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.

Police officials said the operation is part of Jatrapur Police's sustained drive against drug trafficking and the illegal narcotics trade in the region. In recent months, the police station has intensified its crackdown on Ganja cultivation, transportation, and other drug-related activities as part of its efforts to curb the growing menace of substance abuse.

The seizure underscores the continuing challenge posed by narcotics in parts of the state, even as law enforcement agencies step up enforcement through intelligence-based operations and regular search drives.
