Huge quantities of Ganja worth of Rs. 7.3 crore seized from oil tanker
In continuation of “Nesha Mukt Tripura” drive of the state police, Unakoti district police on Thursday seized massive quantities of Dry Cannabis, worth of Rs. 7.3 crore from an oil tanker and arrested two peddlers.
Police sources said that based on secret information, a contingent of police led by SDPO (Kumarghat) Kamal Debbarma and OC of Pecharthal police station Suman Acharjee laid a trap at the Naka point near the police station and National Highway-8.
SP(Unakoti) Kanta Jahangir said that based on the information when a ten wheeler oil tanker bearing registration number AS-01-AC-6267 reached the spot from Khowai, the police team detained the vehicle.
During a thorough search, police recovered 3,660 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) worth Rs. 7.30 crore inside the oil tanker and both driver and assistant of the lorry. Acuded driver was identified as Priyalal Debbarma (27) of Kalyanpur and assistant Paresh Debbarma (42) of Mandwai were under a specific case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) for further legal action.
