Huge seizure of Yaba tablets from Churaibari, 3 peddlers arrested
In a biggest seizure of drug consignment in recent time, the Tripura police on Saturday morning seized 60,000 Yaba tablets from Churaibari check point and arrested three drug peddlers.
Giving details of the successful operation, SP (North Tripura) Bhanupada Chakraborty said that based on secret information, a contingent of police personnel from Churaibari police station laid a trap at the Naka point of Churaibari gate.
He said that they have specific information that a large consignment of Yaba tablets hidden in a jeep will cross the Naka point from Assam.
On Saturday morning at about 6 AM, police detained the suspected Balero jeep and conducted a massive search in the entire vehicle. After a thorough search, police recovered big packets containing Yaba tablets from the fuel tank of the jeep.
Police also arrested three drug paddlers boarded in the jeep and they were identified as Subhankar Debnath, Idrish Miah and Rajat Paul, all are residents of Dhanpur area of Sonamura subdivision.
Chakraborty said that they have specific intelligence inputs from Sonamura and based on the information, police get success with seizure of large consignment of Yaba tablets, worth Rs. 6 crore.
He said that all three detained peddlers were produced before a local court on Saturday with police remand appeals under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).
He said that Tripura police is now collecting information from Assam police to unearth the source of seized consignment and added that state police will continue its operation against drug menaces to achieve the goal of ‘drug free Tripura.’
