IGNOU holds 39th Regional Convocation, awards 1,400 degrees
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Agartala, successfully organised its 39th Regional Convocation at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala on Tuesday, celebrating the academic achievements of hundreds of learners across Tripura.
The ceremony was held in sync with IGNOU Regional Centres nationwide and marked a significant milestone for students who completed their programmes in recent academic sessions.
Regional Director Dr. Chandra Shekar Putta welcomed the Guest of Honour, Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nalli along with other distinguished dignitaries and academicians.
Over 1,400 Students Receive Degrees. Presenting the Regional Director’s report, Dr. Putta highlighted that 1,457 students from Tripura successfully completed their programmes during the December 2024 and June 2025 Term-End Examinations. All eligible candidates were conferred their respective degrees at the convocation.
The main convocation ceremony at IGNOU Headquarters in New Delhi was graced by the Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Governor N. Indrasena Reddy congratulated the graduates and underscored IGNOU’s vital role in making education accessible to all sections of society.
He stressed the importance of acquiring life skills in emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Agricultural Technology, Entrepreneurship, Employment generation.
The Governor remarked that education remains a powerful tool for social transformation and praised IGNOU’s efforts in expanding higher education opportunities across Tripura.
The event was attended by several prominent academicians, including Prof. Bibhas Deb, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University, Prof. Makhlesh Kumar, Director of Central Sanskrit University, Prof. Thiruselvan, Deputy Registrar (Academic), Tripura University Coordinators, assistant coordinators, and staff from various Learner Support Centres (LSCs) across the state were also present.
Degrees, diplomas, and certificates were awarded to successful candidates from diverse disciplines. The ceremony witnessed a festive atmosphere, with students proudly receiving their credentials in traditional convocation attire.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Samrat Goswami, Coordinator of IGNOU Study Centre, Tripura University.
The event highlighted IGNOU’s continued commitment to strengthening the academic ecosystem and expanding inclusive education in the region.
