Infiltration continues, 1346 Bangladeshi, 101 Rohingyas arrested in last two months
After unrest in Bangladesh, the infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued and after BSF detained five more citizens of the neighbouring country including a tout , police again on Sunday, police has arrested another Bangladeshi from Motinagar border of Sonamura under Sepahijala district.
In the last two months, altogether 1346 Bangladesh nationals and 101 Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.
AIG(Police Control) Ananta Das said that the Tripura police along with other security forces including BSF and Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in August, 2024 had arrested altogether 620 Bangladesh nationals and 44 Rohingyas for their illegal entry. Similarly, police and other security forces have also arrested 726 Bangladeshi and 57 more Rohingyas in September, 2024.
On Friday, the BSF apprehended two Rohingyas from a bus stand in the Karbook area in southern Tripura.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Jayanta Kumar Dey said that in the wee hours of Sunday, the mobile patrolling team of police has received information over suspect movement of a Bangladeshi . Immediately , a police team rushed to the spot, but they were unable to detain the suspected Bangladeshi.
Later, police team managed to arrest suspected Bangladeshi from Aralia area and brought him at the police, said Dey and added that during preliminary interrogation, arrested suspected man revealed his identify as Salim Ahmed (40) of Commilla district of Bangladesh, who had entered into Indian territory two months ago through NC Nagar.
OC said that after entering Tripura’s territory, Salim started working in a furniture factory. While, police registered a specific case and forwarded him before a local court with police remand appeal for further interrogation.
It may be recalled here that the bordering Tripura, which is a top hotspot travelling destination for human trafficking, specially for Rohingyas and Bangladesh nationals, who were illegally entered into Indian territory and moves towards other parts of the country through different means of surface communication with help of Indian and Bangladeshi touts, but many time, the alert security forces have also managed to detain them.
According to BSF officials both the apprehended Rohingya illegal migrants are inmates of the Rohingya refugee Camp located in Cox Bazar in southeast Bangladesh.
A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said that the paramilitary forces are cracking down heavily on the illegal migration by Bangladeshi nationals and have stepped up the vigil in close coordination with sister agencies in the border area.
Following the direction of Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the BSF has stepped up its drive against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and all field formations are actively breaking down the nexus of touts in the bordering areas.
Tripura Frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das said that 95 percent of the 856 km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura has already been fenced, while fencing work is going on in the remaining 27.5 km.
Officials said that all the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas illegally entered Tripura to board trains or buses to go to other states in India “in search of jobs”.
