Jubilant BJP workers engaged with factional clashes, four injured
Jubilant BJP workers after their party candidates’ secured massive victory in two Lok Sabha seats and by-poll in one assembly segments engaged fierce fighting among themselves outside of Umakanta Academy counting centre and in Melaghar Bazar, resulting four supporters sustained injuries.
Sources said that on Tuesday afternoon when BJP candidate and Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Dipak Majumder after security his massive victory for the by-poll of 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency, moved out from the counting station and reached in front police headquarters, where hundreds of BJP supporters were waiting to welcome him.
When Majumder along with counting agents arrived at the square area , near police headquarters, a large number of BJP supporters rushed to him to welcome him and garland him. Amidst the chaotic situation, when security forces guarding Dipak Majumder, one after one BJP worker hurriedly tried to give him garlands. But, all of sudden, a few euphoric BJP workers from the Border Gul Chakkar area started attacking each other with helmets.
Within a second, the women supporters stranded at that spot raised their alarms and a large number of security forces rushed to the spot and defused the clash that erupted among their own party supporters of BJP. As a result, three BJP workers suffered critical head injuries and they were immediately shifted to IGM Hospital.
In another incident, a group of BJP supporters attacked a shop owner at Hospital Chowmuhani area of Melaghar under Sepahijala district after poll results and ransacked the shop. Miscreants have also thrashed shop owner and a local BJP leader, Dulal Sutradhar.
After the incident, a large number of security forces rushed to the spot and defused the tension. While, shop owner Dulal Sutradhar in his complaint before the police alleged that few BJP supporters engaged with negotiation and other anti-social activities attacked him intoxicated condition during celebration of party’s poll victory. He also alleged that miscreants led by Kalipada Barman and Suman attacked him after he refused to participate in their negotiation related illegal activities. He also lodged his complaint before the BJP Mandal leaders demanding justice.
