Killing of Bharat Ratna Sangha secretary, one accused arrested
In the sensational shootout incident held at Shalbagan Bazar under Airport police station on Tuesday night at about 8.20 PM, in which club secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha of Usha Bazar, Durga Prasanna Deb alias Viki was shot dead, the Agartala city police on Wednesday arrested one of the accused, identified as Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury.
Soon after his arrest, the Airport police station through its Suo-Moto FIR has produced the accused before the court of Chief Judicial magistrate (CJM) of West Tripura on Wednesday afternoon with five days police remand for interrogation.
Giving details of the case, additional public prosecutor (APP) said that after the sensational murder of Durga Prasanna Deb alias Viki on Tuesday evening at Shalbagan area under Agartala Airport police station, police has registered an Suo-Moto FIR under section 302, 120(B) of IPC and 27 Arms Act against assailants and police has arrested one of the accused Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury from Usha Bazar area. Subsequently police have produced him before the court of CJM with five days police remand and after hearing CJM, Saikat Das granted three days police remand for interrogation. He will be produced before court on May 3rd next.
APP added that based on the complaint of the wife of the deceased youth, many club members of Bharat Ratna Sangha were involved with the sensational murder of Viki, who was also a local leader of BJP.
It may be recalled here that the shootout at Shalbagan Bazar has prime reason of growing rivalry among different groups of negotiation mafias and the North side of Agartala city on Tuesday evening has once again shaken after a shootout incident at the cantonment area of Shalbagan and killing of club secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha of Usha Bazar.
After Viki received bullet injuries, police shifted him to ILS Hospital, where a visiting doctor declared him brough dead.
A large contingent of police teams led by the SP (West) Kiran Kumar and other senior officials rushed to the spot and they launched a massive investigation to find out the details of the shoot-out incident, which mainly held for a share of money of negotiation CPW contracts and police suspected that local mafias may be involved with the shootout incident.
While speaking with the media persons in front of ILS Hospital on Tuesday night, the elder brother and wife of the victim youth claimed that one Biman Das of Bharat Ratna Sangha called Viki in the evening and sent his car to reach Shalbagan area. They also complained that mafias of Usha Bazar area were responsible for killing of their kin.
Viki’s wife said that negotiation mafias including Raju Barman, Biman Das, Rajesh Barman, Debabrata Barman, Santosh and Prabakar Ghosh were responsible for the killing of her husband and shed also named these persons in the FIR.
Meanwhile, SP (West) Kiran Kumar said that police teams are investigating the incident and they are collecting all evidence related to the incident and he also hoped that after interrogation of arrested accused Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury, police will be able to arrest more accused involved in the shootout incident.
He also added that at the preliminary stage of investigation, police cannot say anything in details over the shootout and who is responsible for killing one person.
