Kriti made false allegation: Jitendra Chaudhury
Opposition sought the intervention of Election Commission of India (ECI) against BJP candidate for East Tripura PC, Kriti Debi Debbarman over alleged violation of Code of Conduct (MCC) by making baseless allegations against the CPI (M) .
CPI(M) state secretary and leader of opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury in his letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) alleged that , BJP candidate from Tripura East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency. Kriti Debi Debbarman violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by making baseless allegations against the CPI (M) during a public address on April 8, 2024, in Fatikroy, Unakoti District.
Kriti Devi Debbarman reportedly referred to the CPI (M) as "CPM Manush Khuner Party," which translates to "CPI(M) is a party of human killers." In the letter Jitendra Chowdhury emphasized that such unfounded accusations are prohibited under Sub-rule 'V' of Part (B) of rule 4.4.2 Sub-Chapter "Don'ts" of the MCC, which prohibits criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortions.
Chowdhury pointed out that Debbarman herself is embroiled in a murder case, currently under investigation by the CBI as per the order of the Chhattisgarh High Court dated January 10, 2022. Furthermore, Chowdhury also criticized Debbarman for failing to disclose this pending criminal case in her nomination papers, in defiance of mandatory electoral rules.
The CPI (M) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take necessary action against Debbarman for her slanderous remarks and for violating the MCC.
