Large quantities of Ganja seized in midnight raid in Jatrapur, one smuggler arrested
Acting on a tip-off, police from Jatrapur police station under Sepahijala district conducted a high-risk midnight operation and seized three sacks of dry Ganja (Cannabis) weighing around 36 kg, along with arrest of a drug smuggler from a remote location.
Giving details, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Partha Nath Bhowmik said on Sunday that information was received late Saturday night about a stockpile of dry Ganja stored in sacks at the residence of Nirmal Tripura in the eastern part of Kalacherra village.
Based on the secret information, the OC, along with a police team, launched a raid after midnight. Due to the absence of motorable roads, the team had to leave their vehicle nearly a kilometre away and proceed on foot to reach the house.
The accused, who was asleep at the time, was woken up and the house was searched. During the operation, police recovered approximately 36 kg of Ganja packed in plastic sacks. The accused was then arrested and brought to Jatrapur police station with seized Ganja.
The OC further said that a case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, and he will be produced before a local court on Sunday with police remand appeal for further interrogation.
Interestingly, the area where the raid was carried out lies about 10 km Southeast of Jatrapur police station. Kalacherra is a predominantly tribal village located between Thalibari and Monai Pathar ADC villages. The region is considered highly sensitive and risky, with even daytime access posing challenges for many.
