Large quantities of Yaba and Ganja seized before smuggling to Bangladesh at Madhupur border
In a major anti-smuggling operation, police in coordination with the BSF, seized a large quantity of Yaba tablets and dry Ganja (Cannabis) before the consignment could be trafficked across the border.
Police sources said that acting on prior intelligence, a joint team of Madhupur police station of Sepahijala district and BSF conducted a search operation in the Miyapara tea garden area of Kamalasagar. During the raid , forces recovered 113 kilograms of dry Ganja along with 2,960 Yaba tablets hidden deep inside a forest. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is over Rs 10 lakh.
However, no arrests were made during the operation as the smugglers reportedly fled from the spot sensing raid by security forces.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhupur police station Ujjal Chowdhury said that police had been receiving inputs for a long time about the smuggling of Ganja and Yaba tablets through the Miyapara tea garden route towards Bangladesh. Based on this intelligence, police and BSF personnel laid a trap and wait to intercept the smugglers.
Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the smuggling network.
