Based on secret information, police conducted a raid in Durgapur area under Sonamura police station of Sepahijala district and seized 21.07 kg of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from the residence of a drug peddler.

Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Tapash Das said that the contraband was recovered from ten black tape-wrapped packets concealed inside two sacks. During the operation, police also seized a red Maruti Suzuki Brezza car bearing registration number TR-03S-0356, along with a mobile phone and several important documents belonging to the accused.

However, the suspected drug peddler managed to flee from the house before the police team arrived.

A case has been registered at Sonamura police station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and an investigation has been launched, said OC.

Police officials said that further investigation into the case has yielded additional leads, and more arrests of individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking in the area are likely in the coming days. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused.
