Political tensions have once again surfaced in Tripura ahead of the upcoming elections, with the Left Front alleging that its candidates are being obstructed from filing their nomination papers. The Left Front has accused workers of the BJP and Tipra Motha of creating hurdles in the nomination process.
In protest against the alleged obstruction, the Left Front organized a protest rally in Agartala on Monday. The procession passed through various areas before reaching the office of the District Magistrate of West Tripura, where Left Front leaders, workers and supporters staged a demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, CPI (M) West Tripura district committee secretary Ratan Das strongly criticized the BJP and alleged that attempts were being made to prevent opposition candidates from participating in the electoral process democratically.
He said denying anyone the right to file a nomination would be a serious matter of concern for democracy. According to Das, the people’s verdict should be the final word in an election, and political competition should take place on the electoral battlefield rather than through obstruction or intimidation.
He also urged the administration and State Election Commission (SEC) to ensure equal opportunities and adequate security for all candidates participating in the election.
Later, a delegation of the Left Front visited the office of the District Magistrate (DM) office and submitted a deputation to DM, Dr Vishal Kumar. The delegation demanded transparency in the nomination process, equal opportunities for candidates of all political parties, and an environment free from any obstruction to the filing of nomination papers.
The Left Front leadership urged the DM to intervene immediately in the interest of a free and fair election and demanded an impartial inquiry into the allegations, followed by necessary action.
